In the city of Xinyu in East China's Jiangxi Province, a nine-year-old named Zou Junyi got to be policeman on Saturday. The boy has been battling the disease called a rare muscular disease for more than three years.

Zou Junyi helped the special police subdue¹ two "kidnappers²" and save three "hostages" played by local police and residents.

Officer Liu Yi, who played one of the kidnappers, said he and his colleague rehearsed many times during the past week.

And besides the kidnap case, Junyi also directed traffic.

But he’s an optimistic boy who works hard at school.

His mother said at first, Junyi was a normal boy. But when he started school, he started to fall while walking.

"After checking the medical test results, the doctor diagnosed him with muscular dystrophy." Chen Qingmei, mother of Zou Junyi, said.

The skeletal muscle disorder⁴ leads to strength muscle wasting and disability.

There is now no cure for the disease. Doctors can only slow its progress through massage⁵ and acupuncture⁶.

"Starting from the age of four, he always fell to the ground. When I asked him whether he hurt, he said no and ran again. When I asked him why he was running so fast and playing with a gun, he said he wanted to be a policeman." Zou Junxiang, Brother of Zou Junyi, said.

Junyi’s story has been widely spread on the Internet. People both from home and abroad want to give him a helping⁷ hand. They believe a cure can be found and Junyi will realize his dream of being a policeman.
