On Friday, 11 April, a major cultural and architectural event is set to take place in Washington: a massive new interactive¹ museum complex dedicated² to the profession of journalism³ will open its doors to the public. The "Newseum" was constructed with private funds at a cost of $450 million. Located in a prime location - about midway between the U. S. Capitol and the White House - its proximity⁴ to the center of American political power sends a powerful signal about the profound value Americans place on freedom of expression.
