Australian citizen Stern Hu and three other Rio Tinto employees will stand trial in China charged with stealing commercial secrets and accepting bribes¹. It's alleged² they used improper³ means to obtain secrets and bribes from several Chinese steel firms. Mr. Hu has been held in detention⁴ since July when he was arrested with three Chinese colleagues.

The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will today announce nine million dollars to improve Indigenous⁵ health services. The money will go towards 10 Indigenous health centers as part of the government's pledge to halve⁶ the gap in mortality rates between Indigenous children and other Australians.

Meanwhile, the former Opposition⁷ Leader Malcolm Turnbull will cross the floor today to vote for the government's emissions⁸ trading scheme. It will be the third time the ETS has passed through the House of Representatives.

Police in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo have used tear gas and water cannons⁹ to break up clashes between government and opposition supporters. Thousands of protesters are demonstrating against the arrest of defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka. He was arrested for treason weeks after the election.

And a teenage boy's recovering in hospital after nearly drowning in flood waters on the Gold Coast. The 15-year-old was sucked into a drainage pipe on the Nerang River last night.
