1. Seven cars of a freight train in Washington have derailed over the Anacostia River. A Fire Department official says there are no injuries and there is no cause for concern. Some coal and oil spilled into the river but officials say the spill is contained.

3. Former New York City Police Commissioner³ Bernard Kerik turned himself in to the FBI today. In 2004, President Bush nominated him to head the Department of Homeland Security. Today he is charged with conspiracy⁴, corruption⁵ and tax evasion⁶.

4. A two-year-old girl born with four arms and four legs has regained⁷ consciousness after a 24-hour operation to remove the extra limbs. Doctors in India say the toddler is smiling but seems to be confused about the loss of her extra limbs.
