　　这条习语起源于某人在“做每个派时都插手弄几下”的情况。这里的in every pie是in making every pie的省略，现在用来比喻“样样事情都参与；每件事情都要管”的意思，比如：She always wants to have a finger in every pie if her neighbors are planning any little festivity. 她的邻居如果打算搞一点喜庆活动，她都要插一手。

　　“空中的派”当然是不现实的东西。因此，这一习语的比喻意思是“渺茫的希望；不能保证实现的许诺”，例如：I was promised the pie in the sky by and by. 有人许诺我日后会后好处但这多半句是空话。
