　　relation/relationship

　　relation有以下几个意思

　　——指最宽泛意义上的“关系”时，relation和relationship同义。

　　the relation/relationship between smoking and heart disease

　　吸烟和心脏病之间的关系

　　——亲戚。同义词：relative。

　　She was a distant relation of my wife。

　　她是我老婆的远房亲戚。

　　subject/object

　　object：(n。)目标，物体，客体，宾语;(某情感或反应的)对象;(v。)反对。它的形容词形式为objective，意为“客观的，目标的”。objective还可以作名词，意为“目标，目的”。

　　become an object of derision 成为嘲笑对象

　　subject：(n。)主体，科目，主语;(批评、研究或调查的)对象(v。)使……隶属;使屈从于，通常与to连用。它的形容词形式为subjective，意为“主观的，个人的”。

　　a subject of conversation 对话主题

　　sensitive/sensible

　　sensitive：敏感的、感觉的、易受影响的，tive一般表特性。

　　a sensitive topic 敏感话题

　　sensible：明智的、合乎情理的、通情达理的、意识到的、能感觉到的，able一般表能力。

　　a sensible young woman 明智的姑娘

　　sensible of his fault 意识到他的错误

　　special/specific

　　special：特别的，强调特别、与众不同

　　a special friend 特殊朋友

　　specific：特定的，强调限制性

　　His specific problems got him into trouble。

　　他特有的问题使自己陷入麻烦。

　　stuff/staff

　　stuff：东西、材料、素材

　　Put that stuff over there。

　　把材料放在那儿。

　　staff：职员

　　the nursing staff of a hospital

　　医院的护士们

　　technology/technique

　　technique：技巧、技能、技术、技艺。更具体，指某项技术。

　　a pianist with superb technique 技术精湛的钢琴家

　　technology：科技(总称)、工业技术、工艺学。更抽象，指成系统的一种科技大类。

　　information technology 信息技术

　　transfer/transmit

　　transfer：转移，调任，转让，侧重点是转移(某物)

　　He transferred the package from one hand to the other。

　　他把包裹从一只手换到另一只手。

　　I transferred from Rutgers to Tulane。

　　我从罗格斯大学调任到杜兰大学。

　　transmit：传输，传导，发射，侧重点是传送(信号)

　　Glass transmits light。

　　玻璃能传播光。
