英语词汇：adopt 正误用法辨析

误：They decided¹ to adopt in our suggestion.

正：They decided to adopt our suggestion.

析：adopt(采纳)是及物动词，其后接宾语时无需用介词。

◆我们学校采用了新的教学方法。

误：Our school adapted a new teaching method.

正：Our school adopted a new teaching method.

析：不要混淆 adapt(使适应；改编，改造)和 adopt(采纳, 采用； 收养)。

◆他是我的养子，我是他的养父。

误：He is my adopted son and I’m his adopted father.

正：He is my adopted son and I’m his adoptive father.

析：汉语中的“养子(女)”说成英语是 adopted son (daughter), 但是“养父母”却是 adoptive parents / adoptive father / adoptive mother。顺便说一句：若用 foster(adj) 则没有此 区别：a foster child(养子)，a foster father(养父)
