Police are investigating whether a faulty accelerator is to blame for a crash that injured seven servicemen during Melbourne's Anzac Day parade. The men in their 70s, 80s, and 90s were all part of a Sri Lankan ex-servicemen's association. The driver of the truck has told Fairfax newspapers, the accelerator seemed to stick and he couldn't stop the vehicle.

 

South Korea's Defense Minister says a North Korean torpedo attack is the most likely cause of the sinking of one of its warships. Forty-six sailors died last month when an explosion caused the Cheonan to split in half. North Korea has denied that it was behind that sinking.

 

Thailand's prime minister says soldiers will try to reclaim Bangkok's shopping district from protesters. Red Shirt protesters have set up camp in the area and are calling on Abhisit Vejjajiva to dissolve parliament and call new elections.

 

West Australian Treasurer Troy Buswell will today respond to allegations that he had an affair with Greens MP Adele Carles. Ms.Carles told News Limited that she was involved with the Treasurer for several months. They are both married with children.

 

Financial advisers will be banned from taking commissions as part of sweeping changes announced by the Federal Government last night. The shake-up will also require financial planners to place the interests of their clients ahead of their own. The Government is hoping the laws will protect consumers from high-profile corporate collapses.
