 　　Zhang Zhaozhong, a retired¹ rear admiral and TV commentator², has inspired a postgraduate³ student to invent a new device and apply for a national patent.

　　张召忠是一名海军退休将领和电视评论员，他启发了一名研究生，使得后者发明了一种新型装置并申请了国家专利。

　　The device first came up in 2013, when Zhang discussed whether or not a U.S. nuclear submarine would enter the Yellow Sea on a CCTV program.

　　有关这种装置的想法最开始出现是在2013年，当时张召忠在CCTV一个节目上讨论美国的核潜艇是否能够进入黄海。

　　During the broadcast, Zhang explained that since the water was only 50 meters deep, the submarine would likely become entangled⁴ in the seaweed cultivated by farmers living nearby.

　　在播放过程中，张召忠解释称，因为黄海的海水只有50米深，因此美国的核潜艇很有可能会被附近渔民种植的海带缠住，根本进不来黄海。

　　Zhang's theory attracted online buzz and earned him a significant following.

　　随后，张召忠的这一言论在网上引起了轩然大波，也为他带来了一个重要的追随者。

　　Inspired by Zhang, the student, Ma Lei, designed an underwater propeller⁵ defense⁶ system.

　　受到张召忠的启发，一名名叫马磊的学生设计了一个水下螺旋桨防御系统。

　　By impairing⁷ the propellers⁸ of invading submarines, much like the seaweed would do, the invention can prevent such seacraft from entering waters illegally.

　　就像海带缠住潜艇一样，通过削弱入侵潜艇螺旋桨的动力，该装置可以防止这些船只非法进入海域。

　　Ma applied⁹ for a national patent in 2014, which he enventually received on June 8, 2016.

　　马磊在2014年申请了国家专利，最终在2016年6月8日收到了专利认证书。

　　Ma is currently studying Agricultural Machinery¹⁰ at Henan University of Science and Technology, and preparing for his PhD.
