 Opposition leader Tony Abbott says a newly revealed document appears to show the prime minister breached¹ the law over setting up that union slush fund. More of the transcript² of an interview between Julia Gillard and her then employers at the law firm Slater&Gorden has emerged this morning. It reveals Julia Gillard wrote to the West Australian Corporate³ Affairs Commission, denying the fund had trade union links.

 

Two car bombs have killed at least 34 people and injured dozens more in the Syrian capital Damascus. The bombs exploded in a main square in the southwest surburb of the city. The blasts destroyed several vehicles and badly damaged buildings.

 

Judges in Egypt's appeal court have gone on strike to protest against the president's power grab. The dispute has already sparked some of the biggest protests since the former dictator Hosni Mubarak was ousted⁴. The judges say they'll stop work until president Mohammad Mursi revokes⁵ his decree.
