 Lord Justice Leveson says the British media has wreaked¹ havoc² on the lives of innocent people for decades. After a year long inquiry³ into that country's press standards, the Leveson report calls for tougher self-regulation of the industry. Now British Prime Minister David Cameron has welcomed the report, but he is concerned new laws could impinge on free speech.

 

 

 

United Nations will vote as Grathese(待定，应该是个人名） just mentioned this morning on whether to upgrade the status of Palestinian authority. If successful, the authority will move from an observer entity⁴ to a non-member observer state. It's believed Palestinians have enough international support to win that vote.

 

 

 

An appeals court in France has cleared Concorde of responsibility for a crash on a Paris runway twelve years ago, which killed more than 100 people. Another court had found the Airline criminally responsible for the crash. The Airline may still be liable for the damages after the court said it still bore civil responsibility.

 

 

 

The Gillard government's poker⁵ machine laws have passed parliament with the support of the Greens. The legislation will force gaming venues⁶ to introduce voluntary pre-commitment technology on their machines. They will take effect from 2014. 

 

 

 

And songer-songwriter Gotye has dominated this year's Aria⁷ Awards. The Melbourne musician took out four categories, including Best Male Artist and Best Pop Release for a second year in a row. Kimbra has also won back-to-back Arias⁸ for the Best Female Artist and the Wiggles were awarded the Best Children Album for a record eleventh time.
