Authorities are urging north Queensland residents to finalise their preparations for a powerful cyclone¹ crossing the coast on Tuesday. An evacuation order is in place for low lying coastal² areas of the Whitsundays and ports and schools have been closed. The weather bureau says tropical cyclone Debbie likely to strengthen to a category four as it nears the coast.

One person has been killed and at least 14 others injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Ohio. Police say at least two gunmen were involved in the incident at the Cameo nightclub in Cinncinatti. Nobody has been taken into custody³ but the police are said to be interviewing multiple witnesses.
