Chinese ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming says

China has taken serious measures to surmount¹ economic and political obstacles

and has a bright future in the road ahead.

Liu Xiaoming delivered a speech at the conference themed "The Road Ahead: Visions for the Emerging World and Poverty" hosted by the Marshall Society of Economics of Cambridge University,

introducing Chinese achievements on poverty reduction and China's measures and visions for future development.

He said economic growth, balanced regional development, and poor regions' own development capacity,

are China's three useful experiences drawn² from its poverty reduction endeavors,

adding that China has made an extraordinary historical contribution to global poverty reduction.

Representatives from the Syrian government and its opposition³,

sitting down face-to-face to a negotiating table for the first time in three years, talked humanitarian⁴ issues Saturday afternoon.

UN mediator⁵ Lakhdar Brahimi says

they are going to discuss prisoner swap⁶ on Sunday morning.
