Beth Schoenfeld and Victoria Colligan founded the organization and are the authors of Ladies Who Launch----embracing entrepreneurship & creativity as a lifestyle.

Good morning to you both. Nice to have you here.

Thank you.

It's so great to see women in power in this way. You’ve really, you know, tapped into something that is so necessary. In fact, women are starting businesses at almost three times the rate of men. Right now, there are over 11 million women-owned businesses. Why, Victoria, is this happening so fast?

Well, you know, we surveyed thousands of women for our book and what we found is that women are launching businesses for lifestyle reasons. Meaning the No.1 reason is to have more freedom control and flexibility1 in their lives. The No.2 reason is for creativity and passion. And money is actually the third reason that they are launching.

And Beth, how do women differ when it comes to, you know, making those ideas then become reality as a business.

Well, from our research for the book, first of all, women define success very differently, it's defined on are they living a lifestyle that they love on a day-to-day bases. So there is implication in how they launch their businesses. For example, they take smaller steps and they tend to evolve and grow their businesses organically, they are less likely to borrow a large amount of money upfront, before they start their businesses, they self-finance and borrow from friends and family until they feel more confident. And they manage the growth of their business.

And there are a lot of challenges that women are definitely gonna face. (Absolutely)And we have a lot of E-mails from viewers who sent us want asking for your advice. First from Michelle in Pennsylvania, she wrote I'm having a hard time leaving my current job behind to focus on my own business. How can I let go of my 9-5 to pursue my dream full-time2? Again it's from Michelle in Pennsylvania. So what do you say Victoria? Should Michelle quit her job and go for it?

We really encourage women to just start, to just take-start taking small steps towards their dreams. And the truth is there are so many opportunities out there for women. Whether they are looking to find a lawyer to form their RLC or they wanna enter a small business contest from IKEA, where they can win a designed makeover for their entire business community. These are the opportunities that are available, and that we provide our ladies who launch their websites through our incubator programs.

So maybe spend a couple of hours focusing on your business but keep working at her job right now, just to, you know, have that ability...

Yeah, a lot of, we talk about launching from inside until you feel more confident, but launching equals self-esteem and happiness. So we really encourage women, I mean we found in our book that women who launch they feel better about themselves, they have self-esteem, they have more confidence, they, they trust their intuition more. So there is a lot of incentive3 to launch (That's the right!). That is main confidence by launching on the side.

Let's take a look at another E-mail. This is from Lea, also from Pennsylvania. I'm in the process of opening a small photography studio. How do I compete with the big studios and ad agencies that are already established in the business? Now this is a common problem that I would imagine to try to just carve you a little niche4 into an already crowded world.

Well, you know, it depends on what you want out of your business. Do you want a huge business? Coz that may impact your lifestyle. So if you.. and we look at competition as a really good thing. It forces you be creative and innovative5 and maybe you due to find a niche that you can charge a lot for and not work as hard for.

You go for the just the customer loyalty6 factor. (Absolutely) not enough for that around these days. (Absolutely)

Well, ladies again, you have a website ladieswholaunch.com and we can get to as much as we'd like to here. But you can definitely check out the website and also the books, it's called the Ladies Who Launch. Beth Schoenfeld and Victoria Colligan. Thank you also.

Thank you so much.
