The new guidelines, which go into effect at 8 PM Eastern time, say that applicants¹ from six majority-Muslim countries must prove a close relationship in the U.S., such as a parent, spouse² or child in order to enter the country. Foreign nationals with "bona fide" educational or business ties to the U.S. are exempted³

The new guidelines will remain in place until the Supreme⁴ Court issues a final ruling on the matter, which won't be until at least October. President Trump⁵ ordered the refugee and travel ban, saying it was needed to protect the U.S. from terrorists.
