Tropical storm Dorian is threatening Puerto Rico with a direct hit Wednesday. President Trump¹ has declared an emergency and ordered federal assistance for local authorities.

There are concerns in Brazil about respiratory illnesses, as fires in the Amazon produce huge amounts of smoke. Brazilian researchers have documented more than 77,000 fires, about half of them in the Amazon region.

Portland, Oregon authorities say a wind-driven grass fire was intentionally² set. Flames damaged 5 buildings, destroyed 50 cars in a parking lot and sent residents running form their homes.
