Prosecutors¹ have charged a Minneapolis police officer with third degree murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, an African American who died Monday while in police custody². A witness recorded the officer, Derek Chauvin, with his knee pressed against Floyd's neck while Floyd was face down on the ground in handcuffs.
