 The bird which holds the world’s record for long-dis tance flying is the arctic tern, which you see in the picture. 保持着长距离飞行世界纪录的鸟是北极燕鸥，如图所示。

It builds its nest within seven and one-half degrees of the north pole, 北极燕鸥在北极7.5度的范围内筑巢，

remaining but a brief period in the “land of the midnight sun,’’ when it flies away to the icebergs¹ of the antarctic continent, a distance of 11,000 miles. 只在“午夜太阳之地”停留一小段时间，然后飞向11000英里外的南极大陆的冰山。
