The latest trend sweeping1 the fashion world, banning super-skinny models from the runway, officials from Spain have done it. Is England gonna follow suit? Here is ABC's Gloria Viara in London.

They are the queens of the catwalk, beautiful, glamorous2, and thin, oh so thin, but thin enough to keep them off the runway ?

I thought what a good idea, so many young people um, are anorexic or bulimic.

Some London officials now want to ban super-thin models from the city's prestigious3 fashion week, saying they send the wrong message to girls. They're not the first, after facing protests from women's groups, Madrid rocked the fashion world, rejecting models from its own fashion week if they weren't heavy enough. 30% didn't make the cut. Many others just decided4 not to go.

We're a bit upset because we love to go there, and we love Spain ,and I never think...

But don't mistake it, the Madrid standards still cut a very trim figure. A five-foot-nine model, for example, has to weigh 123 pounds. At New York's Fashion Week, some designers said it's in line with what they already do.

Michael Kors says he doesn't look for super thin on his runway.

I like a curvy body, er, I like real women, you know, I mean, my clothes have to translate to real life.

But what about the models themselves, so used to an industry where being so slender is so richly rewarded.

There're people in this industry that, you know, don't need struggle, and you know, nobody says anything about it.

As you never know, you cannot just be, look at a person and if they are skinny, oh my god, she is anorexic, and she is sick.

Well London authorities consider a ban. They're getting support from Brits like author J.K. Rowling, who says she doesn't want her children to be, (quote), "empty-headed, self-obsessed clones".

But organizers of London's Fashion Week reject the idea.

"Outright5 bans and indeed legislation is definitely not a route we want to go down", the event's chairman said, "Still it's an issue unlikely to go away. The city officials in Milan, the fashion capital of the world, now considering weight requirements of their own.
