 Fidel Castro and his rebel army, now over about 800 men begin to move through Orien province, while Che attacks army garrisons¹ using psychological guerilla tactics to scare away the enemy.

 

By Monday, at one of the morning, 12:01, to one shot into the garrison². And garrison, of course, is massive firepower of this ponds. Then we went home, or went to sleep or went to the something else. The next night, a couple of rebels arrived in 11 clocks in one of the four in the months the same thing one shot. By the third night, the garrison was always up and not sleeping, they basically made these people, just well leave. And I'm sure after an hour or two garrisons just abandoned the capital and went into town. Your situation while you're thinking, you're fighting a superior enemy. That morale³ rise that can not be very good, I think that definitely after the Batista army.

 

On December 27th, 1958, Fidel Castro orders Che to assault Santa Clara, Batista's last holdout--- With 340 fighters against an enemy force 10 times the size.

 

The troops were drilled. They knew what they were doing. They knew they had a good commander. They had Che Guevara. They trusted him. We have been monitoring shortwave [X] and from Santi Clara, from which Che was, and the news didn't sound good, rebel transmission they did, getting Clara.

But the reports are mistaken.

 

They're fighting against an army which is largely behind the people they're crossing into the army really very very poor poeple. They have not staken but they're just staying in power.

Realising the utility of resistance, they surrendered and more than 100 guns passed over to the side of freedom.

 

The final blow to Batista's forces come when Che and his men ambushed⁴ an armor train, bringing reinforcement to Santa Clara.

 

December 31st, 1958, Batista fled Havana and with his entourage and several millions of dollars in cash. As news of Batista's departure spreads, troops begin to surrender.

Fidel ordered Che to march on Havana from Santa Clara, while he himself made a more leisurely⁵ victory prayed the links of the island.

 

32-year-old Fidel Castro and his rebel army arrived Havana, on January, 8th, 1959.

Today our eyes, those of the powerful pressures and those of the hopeful are fixed⁶ on us.

Che's dream is for united socialist⁷ Latin America, a new world ordered that will not set well with the United States. To attain⁸ it, Che will spread revolution across the continent, but first, more blood would be shed.
