　　1. The name of this little girl is Lucy. 这个小姑娘名叫露西。

　　2. One day she had a present given to her of a kitten. 一天，她得到一只小猫咪当作礼物。

　　3. It was a brown kitten, and she called it Topsy. 那是一只棕色的小猫咪，露西叫它托普希。

　　4. Topsy is very fond¹ of milk, and Lucy gives it some every day in a cup. 拓普希很喜欢喝牛奶，露西每天用杯子盛给她喝。

　　5. When Lucy wants Topsy to come for the milk, she rings a little bell. 每当露西想要拓普希过来喝牛奶，她就摇摇小铃铛。

　　6. Do you see the bell in her hand? Ring, ring, ring! The kitten hears it. 你看见她手中的铃铛了吗？叮铃铃，叮铃铃！小猫咪听到了。

　　7. At the sound of the bell Topsy runs at once to Lucy. 一听到铃声，拓普希立刻跑向露西。

　　8. The bell is made of brass². Lucy calls it Topsy's dinner-bell. 铃铛由黄铜制作而成。露西称它为拓普希的餐铃。
