It's the final scene of the ''Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark''. As this amateur footage shows, the audience has been treated to some impressive stunts2, and arousing music composed by members of U2. And then, this happened. Watch again, keeping your eyes on the rope, as the stunt1 double playing Spiderman dives towards the audience, it appears to snap. The performer, Christopher Tierney , fell 30 feet into the orchestra pit---a heroine sight for the audience.

"I mean I'm surprised he even lives through it, the fall, so just awful, and terrible. And then you heard the screams, and the call 911, and then the crash, which is awful of that. I mean I'm surprised to see he’s even OK."

"Oh, well, here he comes."

Ambulances were called to the Foxwoods Theater at about 10:45 pm on Monday night, and Tierney was taken to Bellevue hospital. Police said he suffered only minor3 injuries, other reports suggested that he had broken ribs4 and internal bleeding.

It's the fourth accident since previews began last month, and the 65-million-dollar shows’ official opening night has already been pushed back twice. It's a terrible start for Broadway’s most expensive production ever. But the old saying about publicity5 appears to be holding true.

"The same thing, it went elsewhere."

"What was that?"

"That someone fell off the stage, about 30 feet, and got hurt, and broke his spine6 or something."

"Does that make you want to see the show more or less?"

"More, without a doubt."

"Why?"

"Just cause, I didn't hear of the show until I heard that someone fell off."

With running costs of one million dollars a week, "Spiderman:Turn Off the Dark" needs all the help it can get. The musical would have to sell out virtually every performance for several years just to break even, which makes this a high-risk show in more ways than one.
