托福语法技巧：many和much用法

 　　many和much

　　many（形容词）用在可数名词之前。

　　much（形容词）用在不可数名词之前。

　　He didn’t make many mistakes²．

　　他没犯多少错。

　　We haven’t much coffee．

　　家里的咖啡不多了。

　　many和much的比较级和最高级形式相同，都是more和most：

　　more mistakes/coffee更多的错误/咖啡

　　most men/damage 几乎全部的男士/几乎所有的损害many，much，more，most可作代词使用：

　　He gets a lot of letters but she doesn’t get many．他收到的信很多，可她的信不多。

　　You have a lot of free³ time but I haven’t much．你有许多空闲时间，可我没有。

　　more和most的用法较灵活，many和much在否定动词后面用得比较多（见上文的例子），但many和much在肯定动词和疑问动词后用法较受限制。

　　many和much与肯定动词连用

　　many前加上a good/great时可与肯定动词连用。many与much用so/as⁴/too修饰时也可以与肯定动词连用。

　　I made⁵ a good many friends there．

　　我在那里交了许多朋友。

　　He has had⁶ so many jobs that．

　　他做过了这么多种工作，以致……

　　She read as much as she could⁷．

　　她尽量多读书。

　　They drink too much（gin）．

　　他们（杜松子酒）喝得太多了。

　　many是宾语或宾语的一部分而前面不加任何修饰语时，常常被 a lot/lots of（+名词）或a lot，lots（代词）代替。much是宾语或宾语的一部分时常常被a great/good deal⁸ of（+名词）或agreat/good deal（代词）代替：

　　I saw⁹ a lot/lots of seabirds．I expect¹⁰ you saw a lot too．我看到了许多海鸟。想必你也看到了许多。

　　He spends a lot/lots of/a great deal of money on his house．他在房子上花很多钱。

　　既可以用many也可以用a lot（of）作主语或作主语的一部分，但这里的much通常由其他形式代替。

　　但much在正规英语中是允许这样用的：

　　Much will depend¹¹ on what the minister¹² says．很多事要取决于部长怎么说。

　　试将肯定句和否定句作一比较：

　　He hasn’t won¹³ many races．

　　他没有赢过几次比赛。

　　You’ve won a lot/lots of races．/You’ve won a lot．/You’ve won a greatmany（races）．你赢过多次比赛。

　　He didn’t eat much fruit．

　　他没有吃多少水果。

　　She ate¹⁴ a lot/lots/a great deal of fruit．/She ate a lot/a great deal．她吃了大量的水果。

　　many和much与疑问动词连用

　　两者前都可加how：

　　How many times？

　　多少次？

　　How much？

　　多少？

　　在不用how的问句中，many也可使用。如预期得到的是肯定的回答，则最好使用a lot（of）：

　　Did¹ you take a lot of photos？I expect you did．你拍了许多照片吗？我想你拍了。

　　用much时不加how是可行的，但其他的几种用法更常见：

　　Did you have a lot of snow/much snow last year？

　　去年你们那儿雪下得多吗？

v.动词do的过去式

参考例句：

• How many goals did you score in the last game?上一场比赛你们进了几个球？
• Why did you choose basketball in the first place?你为何首先选择篮球呢？

2 mistakes   

n.错误( mistake的名词复数 )；过失；误解；（用词或数字上的）错误v.弄错，误解( mistake的第三人称单数 )；认不出；误会；看错

参考例句：

• In her haste to complete the work on time, she made a number of mistakes. 她急急忙忙想按时完工，结果出了不少错。
• Be humble enough to learn from your mistakes. 要虚心地从自己的错误中学习。

3 free   

adj.自由的，免费的；v.使自由；adv.随意地

参考例句：

• I don't have much free time.我没有多少空闲时间。
• There really is no free lunch.天下果然没有免费的午餐。

4 as   

conj.按照；如同

参考例句：

• He got work in a hotel as a waiter.他在一家旅馆找到了当服务生的工作。
• In the hotel,the old men were drinking away as usual.在旅馆里，这些老人和往常一样喝个不停。

5 made   

v.make的过去式和过去分词

参考例句：

• They were not made in china.它们不是中国制造的。
• The monkey made a long arm for the peach.猴子伸臂去摘桃子。

6 had   

vbl.have的过去式和过去分词；conj.有

参考例句：

• I just had a good idea!我有个好主意！
• The boy had a small branch of a tree in his hand.这个男孩手上拿一条小树枝。

7 could   

v.能，可能(can的过去式)；aux.v.(can的过去式)能；可以

参考例句：

• Could I open the window?我可以打开窗子吗？
• I could wait ten minutes.我可以等十分钟。

8 deal   

n.交易，协定，份量；v.(dealt,dealt[delt])处理，应付，分配

参考例句：

• Be careful. She is very difficult to deal with.可得当心，她很难对付。
• Deal with a man as he deals with you.以其人之道，还治其人之身。

9 saw   

vbl.看见(see的过去式)；n.锯；v.用锯子锯

参考例句：

• Would you like to saw a tree for me?你能为我锯棵树吗？
• The moment I saw you,I knew you were angry with me.我一看到你，就知道你在生我的气。

10 expect   

vt.预期，期待，料想

参考例句：

• Don't expect me to run after you all your life.别指望我伺候你一辈子。
• Don't expect too much of his idea.不要对他的主意期望过高。

11 depend   

vi.依靠，相信，指望

参考例句：

• All living things depend on the sun for their growth.万物靠太阳生长。
• You may depend on it that he will help you.你可以指望他来帮助你。

12 minister   

n.部长，牧师，公使；vi.服侍，救助，主持圣事

参考例句：

• He met with the Prime Minister of Japan for an hour.他和日本首相会见了一个小时。
• I got the minister on the ear with a potato.我用土豆打中了部长的耳朵。

13 won   

vt.赢得(为win的过去式)

参考例句：

• We won the game in the end.我们最终赢得了比赛。
• We won the football game.我们赢得了足球赛的胜利。

14 ate   

v.吃，eat的过去式

参考例句：

• I ate a whole box of chocolates.我吃了一整盒巧克力。
• It's a long time since she ate out last time.她很长一段时间没在外面吃饭了。
