翻译技巧:公司名称翻译 这些词不要乱用

 　英文中除了用company和corporation表示“公司”“及“企业”之义之外，经常使用“公司”广义上的对应词，例如firm，house，business，concern，combine，partnership，group，consortium，establishment，venture，conglomerate，multinational，transnational等。即使是专有公司名称，“公司”也决非只用company与corporation，lines，agency等也是名正言顺的“公司”的说法。请下面的例子：

　　1.line(s)：(轮船、航空、航运等)公司。例如：

　　atlantic container line 大西洋集装箱海运公司。

　　hawaiian air lines，夏威夷航空公司

　　2.agency：公司，代理行。例如:

　　the austin advertising¹ agency 奥斯汀广告公司china ocean shipping² agency 中国外轮代理公司3.store(s) 百货公司。例如：

　　great universal store 大世界百货公司(英)

　　tesco stores (holdings)坦斯科百货公司(英〕4.associates(联合)公司。例如：

　　british nuclear associates 英国核子联合公司subsea equipment associates ltd.海底设备联合有限公司(英、法、美合资)5.system(广播、航空等)公司。例如：

　　mutual³ broadcasting system 墨脱广播公司

　　6.service(s)：(服务 )公司。例如：

　　africa-new zealand service 非洲--新西兰服务公司tropic air services 特罗皮克航空公司

　　7.此外，exchange，center等词在特定的上下文中也可转义表示“公司”。例如：

　　american manufacturers foreign credit insurance exchange 美国制造商出口信用保险公司binks (shanghai)engineering exhibition center, ltd.宾克斯(上海)涂装工程设备展示有限公司值得一提的是，不仅“公司”的表达法多种多样，就是一些特定的公司往往也不止一种说法，例如，“联合公司”除了associates之说，另外还有以下各灵活表达法。

1 advertising

参考例句：

• The advertising campaign is aimed primarily at young people. 这个广告宣传运动主要是针对年轻人的。

2 shipping   

n.船运（发货，运输，乘船）

参考例句：

• We struck a bargain with an American shipping firm.我们和一家美国船运公司谈成了一笔生意。
• There's a shipping charge of ￡5 added to the price.价格之外另加五英镑运输费。

3 mutual   

adj.相互的，彼此的；共同的，共有的

参考例句：

• Mutual interests tied us together.相互的利害关系把我们联系在一起。

4 consolidated   

a.联合的

参考例句：

• With this new movie he has consolidated his position as the country's leading director. 他新执导的影片巩固了他作为全国最佳导演的地位。
• Those two banks have consolidated and formed a single large bank. 那两家银行已合并成一家大银行。

5 allied   

adj.协约国的；同盟国的

参考例句：

• Allied forces sustained heavy losses in the first few weeks of the campaign.同盟国在最初几周内遭受了巨大的损失。

6 machinery   

n.(总称)机械，机器；机构

参考例句：

• Has the machinery been put up ready for the broadcast?广播器材安装完毕了吗？
• Machinery ought to be well maintained all the time.机器应该随时注意维护。

7 joint   

adj.联合的，共同的；n.关节，接合处；v.连接，贴合

参考例句：

• I had a bad fall,which put my shoulder out of joint.我重重地摔了一跤，肩膀脫臼了。
• We wrote a letter in joint names.我们联名写了封信。
