Hello, Kirsty Heenan with the National Weather.

Cloud over the tropics in a monsoon will bring more rain and storms to the north. Cloud over the interior near a low and trough is triggering showers. Bands of cloud in a trough are causing storms in WA. But it should be clear and dry in the southeast in warm northerly winds.

In Queensland today, rain and thunderstorms over much of the northern tropics. A few showers continuing along the remaining east coast.

Hot to very hot conditions in New South Wales today, there is a chance of isolated afternoon showers over the central and northern inland, and light showers for the south and central coast.

Fine and mainly sunny in Victoria becoming very warm over the inland with light winds.

Mild to warm in most of Tasmania with hot temperatures inland.

Scorching temperatures across most of South Australia with dry conditions causing a severe to extreme fire danger in most parts that's catastrophic along the west coast. Isolated showers in the far northwest.

A few early thundery showers above central and southern WA, but they should clear later in the day.

Isolated showers and storms in the Kimberley and the interior. Fine in the southeastern Alice Springs District with a chance of showers and storms for the rest of the Territory.

Looking ahead now, a sunny day for most of the capitals, a few showers for Sydney and late thunder in Darwin. Temperatures are set to climb again in Melbourne and Adelaide.
