It was a very nice day today. We students were organized to have a journey to Beidaihe. We took the school bus that started off at 7:20 am, we arrived at Beidaihe, a very beautiful place.
In the morning we swam in the sea and rowed small boats. At noon we had lunch in a small restaurant. In the afternoon we walked along the beach and reached Nandaihe, where we took some photos. At about 7:30 am. We returned to the city in our school bus. It was such an exciting day that I will never forget it.

W:Just one,Mr. Black. You had a telephone call from someone called Green.

M:Green?I don’t know anyone called Green. What did he want?

W:He wouldn’t say. But it sounded important. I told him you’d phone him as soon as you got back.

M:Well,I’d better do that then,I suppose . Er…,you have got his phone number, haven’t you?

W:Yes,it’s six double eight six two oh one(6886201)

M:Six double eight two six oh one.

W:No,six double eight six two oh one.

M:Oh,you’d better write it down,Miss Grey. I’m sure to forget it.

W:Yes,I’m going to Sydney for my winter holidays. And what about you?

  M:I’m flying to Hawaii then.

W:Oh,it’s nice to see the seaside. Are you travelling yourself?

M:Well, yes,I’m going to meet my parents in Hawaii for the Christmas holidays.

W: Very nice. But I’m going to stay with a host family during my stay in Sydney. I’ll meet them at the airport.

M: That sounds interesting. I’m sure you will have a wonderful experience.

M: Hi, Susan. Have you heard about it?

  W: What?

M: I heard that an auto factory will be built near our town, won’t it?

W: Yes, it will. When completed, it will turn out at least 500,000 cars a year.

M: That’s great. We’ll have more cars and more jobs then.

W: It’s true, but it means more poisonous gases and heavier traffic here, I think.

  M: Really?

  W. Yes. Pollution is one of the serious problems we have now and we should think of this.

M: I see. But if we can reduce pollution, I believe things will get better.

  W: I hope so.

(Text 5)

As a rule, girls and boys have to go to sleep because someone says it is time for bed. But if you stay up long past bedtime, you discover that you would rather go to sleep than do anything else in the world.
People have made experiments with staying awake for long periods of time. After two days they were easy to anger and they didn’t think very well. Your brain is like a shop where waste materials pile up because of all the work that goes on. At night while you are asleep the work slows down. And there is a chance for cleaners to carry the waste away.
The older you are, the less sleep you seem to need. But even the oldest person needs several hours a day. Animals are different. A rat sleeps about half the time. An elephant gets along with a two or three hour nap. Elephants and horses can sleep standing up. Sharks hardly seem to sleep at all. They just doze for a few minutes now and then. Bears sleep all winter.
