A Day at the Races (II)

Mary: Hello, Benita!
Benita: Hello, Mary. Hello, Jack. Why Ronnie, look who's here!
Jack: Hello, Ronnie, aren't you surprised at meeting me here?
Ronnie: Oh, am I?
Jack: You know, you know, Ronnie, there must be a hundred people here that I know and yet I just had to come over and say hello to you.
Ronnie:  Well, thank you, Jack. Now don't keep the other 99 waiting.
Jack: Oh, I can see them later. Say Ronnie, what horse are you going to bet on?

Announcer:  And now coming out on the track are the horses for the sixth race.
Jack: Ronnie, have you picked your horse yet for the next race?
Ronnie: Yes, Jack.
Jack: Come here a minute, who you betting on?
Ronnie: Early Bird.
Jack: Uh ah.
Ronnie: What?
Jack: Early Bird hasn't got a...
Mary: Jack!
Jack: Mary, I'm only going to tell him to bet on my horse. Look Ronnie, forget about Early Bird and put your money on 1)Audacious Man --he'll win by eight lengths.
Ronnie: Uh, Jack, my mind is made up: I'm going to play Early Bird.
Jack: But, look, Ronnie, it's silly just to come out here and just bet on any horse, especially after driving six hours just to get to the track.
Ronnie: Well, in my car it's forty minutes.
Jack: Gee! Look, Ronnie, I've been studying these horses all season; I know what I'm talking about; Audacious Man can't lose!
Ronnie: Now, I'm sorry Jack, but I'm betting on Early Bird.
Jack: Well, OK, Ronnie, it's your 2)dough but don't say I didn't tell you.

Announcer: The horses are nearing the 3)starting gate.
Jack: Well, I'm going up the window make my bet, five dollars 4)on the nose.
Ronnie: Now, if you girls will excuse me, I'll go up and place my bet too.
Benita: Ronnie?
Ronnie: Yes, Benita?
Benita:  Jack Benny is betting five dollars on Audacious Man.
Ronnie: I know.
Benita: Well, Ronnie, if Jack bets five dollars on a horse, he must know something.
Ronnie: Well, no, I don't care; I'm gonna stick with Early Bird.
Benita: But, darling, think of it: Jack Benny betting five dollars.
Ronnie: Benita, maybe you're right; I'll take his advice and play Audacious Man. I'll be back.

Announcer: The horses are in the starting gate.
Ronnie: Well, I did it, Benita. I bet on Jack's horse a hundred dollars on Audacious Man.
Benita: Good.

Announcer: Now they're all lined up, they start as soon as they can quiet 5)Autocrat; he's a little fractious, he's dancing around a bit. 6)Whoops, he's backed out of the gate now; he's dancing back into the gate. As you know, Autocrat was trained by Arthur Murray.
Mary: Say this is exciting.

Announcer: And there they go!  Going into the first turn it's Hedge Wood in front, Natural is second, 7)Straddle is third, and Early Bird is fourth and Audacious Man...
Ronnie: Come on, come on, Audacious Man!
Benita: Ronnie, stop waving your Oscar. Coffee is coming out of its ear.
Mary: I wonder what happened to Jack?

Announcer: Coming around the far turn it's still Hedge Wood in front, Natural is second, Straddle is third, Audacious Man is now fourth by half a length and...
Ronnie: Come on Audacious Man! Audacious Man!

Announcer: Riding down the home straight it's Straddle in front...
Jack: Here I am, kids.

Announcer: Hedge Wood is second; Audacious Man is third and here comes 8)Triplicate and Early Bird.
Benita: Come on, come on!

Announcer:  And now coming into the finish stretch it's Straddle, Triplicate and Hedge Wood and coming up fast on the outside it's Early Bird. It's Straddle and Early Bird, it's Straddle and Early Bird, now Early Bird is 9)pounding hard. They cross the finish line and it's Early Bird the winner by half a length.
Jack: Ronnie, Ronnie, we won! We won!
Ronnie: What do you mean we won?
Jack: I bet on your horse, Early Bird.
Ronnie: You what? Jack, do you mean that when you left here you didn't bet on Audacious Man?
Jack: No, you talked me out of it. Ronnie, Ronnie, what are you so unhappy about?
Ronnie: Jack Benny, I bet on the horse you gave me!
Jack: You did? Ronnie, how could you be so silly?
Ronnie: Ooh! Benita, you shouldn't have done that he's wearing glasses!
Mary: Well, I don't blame her!
