The Taliban claim that they attacked an Afghan military base in eastern Afghanistan. Authorities say dozens were killed and many more wounded, mostly military personnel.

Ohio authorities say a plane crashed just after takeoff form a rural airport south of Cleveland. Two people died. There is no immediate word on what caused the crash.

A man was shot and killed in a mall in suburban Chicago. Police were searching for a suspect on Monday night.
