Senate Republicans introduced a plan to reopen the government and fund a border wall. It also temporarily protects immigrants brought to the US illegally as children from deportation¹. Democrats² have already rejected the idea.

The Taliban claim that they attacked an Afghan military base in eastern Afghanistan. Authorities say dozens were killed and many more wounded, mostly military personnel.

Ohio authorities say a plane crashed just after takeoff form a rural airport south of Cleveland. Two people died. There is no immediate³ word on what caused the crash.

A man was shot and killed in a mall in suburban⁴ Chicago. Police were searching for a suspect on Monday night.
