President Trump¹ has delayed the State of the Union address until the partial government shutdown ends. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had objected to the speech during the shutdown. Trump said on Twitter no other location could compete with the history and importance of the House floor.

The Senate is getting ready for votes on two competing proposals to end the shutdown. The Republican and Democratic measures are not expected to pass.

A former prison guard trainee² is in custody³ in Florida, accused of killing⁴ 5 people in a bank. Police say suspect Zephen Xaver surrendered to a swat team after a standoff.

And astronomers⁵ say a rock from a comet apparently⁶ hit the moon during this week's eclipse. The impact appears as a very quick flash of light on the Moon's lower left side.
