Dreamworld is defending its safety record amid questions over maintenance standards at the theme park. Dreamworld says the "Thunder River Rapids" ride, which malfunctioned on Tuesday, killing four people, underwent its annual inspection just four weeks ago. But the Australian Workers Union says it raised safety concerns at the park on numerous occasions. Dreamworld has announced it will reopen tomorrow for a special memorial day.

Forensic teams have combed streets in Melbourne's south east where a man was shot by police. The 26-year-old has undergone surgery overnight on his torso. The shooting occured after police pulled over a suspicious vehicle in Dandenong yesterday afternoon. It's alleged the passenger fled, at one point trying to carjack another vehicle, then pointing a weapon at the officers. Police say they pulled out their firearms when the man refused to drop his gun.

Air strikes in Syria have killed at least 22 people including 7 children. According to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, the attack hit a school in the rebel-held Idlib province. It's not immediately clear if the raids were carried out by Syrian government or Russian warplanes.

French authorities say they've completed the task of evacuating thousands of migrants from the jungle camp in Calais. They began demolishing the camp this week, moving people to centres around France. But tents and shelters have been set on fire at the camp sending plumes of black smoke above the town. Thousands of occupants are refusing to leave because they want to go to the UK.
