Chinese President is calling for closer global cooperation in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Closer solidarity and cooperation, more information sharing, and a stronger global response are what we need to defeat COVID-19 across the world. It is especially important to s???cale up cooperation on the research and development, production and distribution of vaccines and make them public goods that are truly accessible and affordable to people in all countries."

Xi Jinping made the remarks in a virtual address to the World Economic Forum.

The president also called on countries to better coordinate economic policies and avoid protectionism to support a global economic recovery.

Janet Yellen has won overwhelming Senate confirmation as the first female U.S. Treasury Secretary.

She will also be the first person to act as treasury secretary, chair of the Council of Economic Advisors, and chair of the Federal Reserve.

Yellen will play a key role in working with Congress on President Joe Biden's coronavirus stimulus plans and on his pledges to invest 2 trillion dollars in infrastructure, green energy projects, education and research to boost American competitiveness.

The U.S. House has delivered an impeachment article against Donald Trump to the Senate, charging the former president with inciting insurrection leading to the Capitol riot on January 6.

The Senate trial will begin in two weeks.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has appointed nine Democrats as impeachment managers who will serve as prosecutors in the upcoming trial.

Turkey has received 6.5 million more doses of COVID-19 vaccine produced by China's Sinovac.

The shipment was part of a second planned consignment of 10 million doses.

Turkey launched its vaccination campaign over a week ago after receiving 3 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine last month.

So far, over 1.25 million Turkish citizens have got the shots.

The European Union has lashed out at pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca for its decision to slow down supply on COVID-19 doses.

EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides says the company's reasons not to meet the agreed supply targets are unacceptable.

"The European Union wants the ordered and pre-financed doses to be delivered as soon as possible, and we want our contract to be fully fulfilled."

The EU is lagging badly behind countries like Israel and Britain in the rollout of vaccines for its most vulnerable populations and healthcare workers.

Last Friday, AstraZeneca announced delays in vaccine delivery after Pfizer failed to meet its agreed supply targets to the EU due to production issues.

The Polish President says the delayed delivery of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is slowing the fight against the pandemic.

Pfizer earlier announced that it will temporarily reduce vaccine shipments to upgrade its production facilities.

The country has warned that it will consider legal action if Pfizer does not deliver the ordered volumes of the vaccine.

Russia has accused the U.S. of flagrant interference after the U.S. Embassy in Moscow warned its citizens to avoid opposition rallies.

The U.S. Embassy published on its website the times and places of opposition rallies in different Russian cities and urged U.S. citizens to avoid them.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova also accused US-based social networks of spreading fake news about Russia, and threatened action against them.

On Monday, Russia's deputy foreign minister lodged a protest with U.S. Ambassador John Sullivan over social media posts by the embassy in support of unlawful rallies.

Russia and the United States have started expert-level work on the extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

The treaty signed in 2010 is the last remaining nuclear arms control deal still in force between the two nuclear superpowers.

It is due to expire early next month.
