访谈录 2009-05-17&05-19 电视剧 “Lie To Me” 演员访谈(在线收听

It’s a show that focuses on spotting a lie and since its debut in January, lots of people have become loyal followers of Fox's hit show 'Lie to Me'. Our CNN entertainment producer KJ Matthews caught up with the cast recently while they were taping their season finale. She joins us live from Hollywood with the scoop. KJ, pretty cool assignment.

Yes very cool assignment. You know why, Nicole, because I love the show 'Lie to Me'. Ever since it debuted back in January, it found a huge audience and hasn’t lost that audience. It’s actually one of the highest rated shows of the year so far, so when Fox contacted me and said we’d love to have you on to do a set visit during our season finale. It’s happening in near downtown Los Angeles, of course I jumped at the idea. I was able to interview Tim Roth and new comer Mekhi Phifer on the set to talk about the show and why it's such a success.

Doctor Lightman, special agent Owen Penninghen with the FBI, we need to talk. Please get in the car.

How did you stumble upon this great Fox Show "Lie To Me"?

Well, they came after me really and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to do something like that. You know, in the end, I came up with some thoughts. In the end, it seems to me a kinda character that has some legs you know you can expand and play around with, and hopefully you won’t just get stuck in sort of one particular kind of rock.

"We need to establish a base line. I want to see what these guys look like when they're not stressed. I wanna see their service records and I want a video of them intervening suspects.

I don’t have time for psychological study. What I needed was an answer."

Remind everybody who you are, what your show is about, the basics.

It’s about based on the work of a specialist in micro expressions and emotions, just detecting emotions as they crossed sort of face and body language.

Who is she? I don't know. Where is she? I don't know.

You are the busiest actor in Hollywood from ER to 'Lie to Me'. (Hey, yes.) How do you get so lucky?

Oh, well work hard, you know, work hard at the craft and you know try to bring the best out of the characters and you know please the audience.

"I pull strings all over D.C. to get these bastards here, so I sure hope that this plan is a lot more successful than your last one"

What's kind of different is fun, you know, obviously I carry a gun, and  you know, law enforcement rather than being a doctor but it’s a lot fun and we have a good time.

Lastly, you wanna tell people lie in real life now?

That's gonna take a few more episodes, what, you know I am pretty perceptive.

And, action.

Stop that.

Tell me about the scene that you are shooting today. What are you guys doing?

This is a scene where there’s been a series of bombings throughout DC which is where the show set so, I’m breaking into an interrogation to get information of him using the sort of techniques that I or my character specializes ?

Let's keep the cop shot. Yep.

It’s based on a real guy though, right? Talk to me a little about that.

Well, Paul’s been doing, he is supposed to (be a) top man in his field, you know with regards to body language and micro expressions. He’s been doing it since 60’s.

"What do you see?”  “Um, Nothing"

Exactly, no contempt, no fear, not even pleasure that’s a face at all rest, it doesn't look like a face of someone who robbed a store, is it?

Cops photoshoped Andrew’s face on someone else's body? They are framing him?

Nuts, not cops .That’s done with some very good equipment. That looks like the FBI to me.

Now Tim Roth and Kelli Williams are regulars on the show. Mekhi Phifer just join actually this week and that’s when the episode airs Now there is still no word yet on whether 'Lie to Me' will come back for a second season but for now you can catch the season finale next week, May 13th.

Very cool KJ, also Tim Roth’s character. Is that based on a real guy, a real doctor?

Yeah, it’s very interesting, doctor Paul Ekman is what the show is based on basically. What he does is read body language. He’s able to spot the bull so to speak, he can look at you body language, your behavior and really tell if you are lying which is obviously essential to law enforcement. So he is a good guy to have around, and can't hate anybody for being able to have that skill, can you?

I know, right, I saw in the open there were a couple of tells, I guess, when somebody is lying, what does he tell you to look out for?

Yeah I guess you know being able to look at the body temperature what they are doing with their eyes, whether or not their voice gets louder, all sorts of things. It’s really interesting and they say it’s really a specialty.

Interesting, a specialty that I would like to have with my boyfriend sometimes. Let’s be honest.

Yeah, hey, we all would like to have that, Nicole, with our boy friend. Pass that over to me please.

I know, alright. I’ll share it out if I could figure it out. KJ Matthew’s joining us from Hollywood. KJ, thanks, have a great weekend.

Thank you.
