Red light runners

The San Francisco department¹ of traffic is installing² cameras at street intersections³. The cameras take pictures of cars running red lights. Each camera captures⁴ eighty to one hundred cars running red lights a day. Running red lights is a big problem in San Francisco. A policeman says he could write tickets all day just for that. Running red lights causes about one thousand accidents a year. The cameras show drivers not pay attention. They read maps. They talk on cell⁵ phone. They look at buildings. The camera sometimes captures the movement⁶ when the accident happens. The drivers look surprise. Sometimes they look angry. The camera seems to pay off. There are 40% fewer red light runners at the intersections with cameras. They city has ordered twenty more cameras.

Man: Talking on the cell phone while driving is very dangerous too. It increases the chance of accidents.
Woman: I know. If policeman catches you using the cell phone while driving, you will be fined.
