The first public hearing for the banking¹ royal commission is underway in Melbourne with home loans under the microscope. Counsel assisting the inquiry² Rowena Orr QC has told the inquiry that the corporate³ watchdog has already moved to ban and suspend people and companies who commit fraud.

Labor says cancelling the concession¹⁰ will save five billion dollars a year but the treasurer¹¹ Scott Morrison says the plan amounts to theft.
