 He liked how it felt too, pulling himself up a wall stone by stone, fingers and toes digging hard into the small crevices¹ between.  他很喜欢攀爬时那种一石高过一石，手脚并用，聚精会神的感觉。

He always took off his boots and went barefoot when he climbed;  每次他都先把靴子脱掉，然后光着脚丫爬墙，

A long time ago, a hundred years before even his father had been born, a lightning strike had set it afire.  很久很久以前，在他父亲出生前约一百年，高塔遭暴雷击中，起火燃烧，

The top third of the structure had collapsed⁷ inward, and the tower had never been rebuilt.  顶端三分之一的建筑朝塔内崩塌，自此以后始终没有重建。

Sometimes his father sent ratters into the base of the tower, to clean out the nests they always found among the jumble⁸ of fallen stones and charred⁹ and rotten beams.  父亲偶尔会派人进到残塔底层清理断垣残壁间的老鼠窝，

But no one ever got up to the jagged top of the structure now except for Bran and the crows. 然而除了布兰和乌鸦，从来没有人登上过塔顶废墟。
