Lucky¹ Taylor gets to interview² the governor³. 幸运的泰乐得以访问州长，

Taylor will ask her about education⁴. 泰乐将会问她教育方面的议题。

Taylor will also go to a party for the governor. 泰乐也会参加一场为州长举办的派对，

But Taylor is not good at making small talk. 可是泰乐不善于聊天。

She can talk about the weather. 她可以聊天气，

What other topics⁶ can she talk about? 她还可以聊哪些话题？

Abby helps her. 雅碧帮助她，

She also tells her to look for friendly⁷ people to talk to. 并且告诉她可以找友善的对象聊天。

Abby, did⁹ you hear the news¹⁰? 雅碧，妳有没有听到消息？

What news, Taylor? 泰乐，什么消息呀？

The governor is coming to town on April 21! 州长在四月二十一日要到城里来！

That's great! 那太好了！

She's a good governor. Everyone likes her. 她是位很好的州长， 大家都喜欢她。

And I get to interview her. 我还能访问她呢。

Lucky you! 妳真幸运！

What will you interview her about? 妳要访问她什么议题？

I'll ask her about her ideas to improve¹¹ education. 我会问她对于改善教育有什么想法。

Good idea. People are interested¹² in that. 好主意， 这是民众感兴趣的议题。

But I'm worried¹³ about one thing. 可是我担心一件事。

What's that? 什么事？

There is a party for the governor on Tuesday evening. 星期二晚上有一场为州长举办的派对，

I'm invited¹⁴. But I won't know anyone¹⁵ there. 我获得了邀请， 可是我在派对上什么人都不认识。

So? Just make conversation with people. 那又怎么样？找人交谈就好了啊。

How? I'm not very good at small talk. 怎么交谈？我不是很擅长聊天。

I can never think of anything to talk about but the weather. 除了天气之外，我总是想不出有什么话题可以聊。

That's a good topic⁵. 那是个不错的话题啊。

But it gets boring¹⁶ really fast. 可是很快就会让人觉得无聊了。

You need to plan¹⁷ ahead¹⁸. 妳需要事先规划，

Make a list of some topics to talk about. 列出一些可以谈论的话题。

Like what? 例如什么？

Well, first, always tell people your name. 这个嘛，首先一定要向别人介绍妳自己的名字，

Then ask, "Where are you from?" 请问你是哪里人？

Then you can talk about their city. 这样妳就可以聊对方的城市。

That's a good idea. 这主意不错。

Who should I talk to? 我该找什么人聊？

When you walk into a room, look for friendly people. 妳走进一个房间的时候，记得找看起来友善的人。

OK. I can look for friendly faces. 好，我可以找些友善的脸庞。

1 lucky   

adj.幸运的，侥幸的，碰巧的，吉祥的

• Three is my lucky number.三是我的幸运数字。
• You are a lucky dog.你真是个幸运儿。

2 interview   

n.面谈，访问，接见；v.接见，会谈

参考例句：

• I have an interview this afternoon.我今天下午有面试。
• We'll do the interview tomorrow.我们明天再做访问吧。

3 governor   

n.统治者，地方长官(如省长，州长，总督等)

参考例句：

• The governor was an expert at fencing with reporters.这位州长是搪塞新闻记者的能手。
• He was elected governor of the state of California.他当选为加州州长。

4 education   

n.教育；培养

参考例句：

• He had a good education.他受过良好的教育。
• We mustn't cut the cost of education.我们不应该削减教育经费。

5 topic   

n.题目，话题，主题

参考例句：

• On what topic are you talking?你在谈论什么话题？
• This is a topic sentence.这是个主题句。

6 Topics   

题目，主题

参考例句：

• Don't revise a few topics to the exclusion of all others. 不要修改少数论题以致排除所有其他的。
• He covered a wide range of topics with unusual candour. 他极其坦率地谈了许多问题。

7 friendly   

adj.友好的，和气的

参考例句：

• He's not friendly to others.他对别人不友好。
• People here are very friendly.这儿的人很友好。

8 conversation   

n.谈话，交谈

参考例句：

• Conversation is one of pleasures of life.交谈是人生一大乐趣。
• We'll carry on a conversation with her tomorrow.我们将于明天与她会谈。

9 did   

v.动词do的过去式

参考例句：

• How many goals did you score in the last game?上一场比赛你们进了几个球？
• Why did you choose basketball in the first place?你为何首先选择篮球呢？

10 news   

n.新闻，消息

参考例句：

• No news is good news.没有消息就是好消息。
• I like reading hot news.我喜欢读热点新闻。

11 improve   

v.改良，改善，增进，提高

参考例句：

• You need to improve your diet.你应该改善你的饮食。
• I hope the weather will improve.我希望天气会变好。

12 interested   

adj.感兴趣的；拥有权益的；有成见的v.使…感兴趣(interest的过去分词)

参考例句：

• to be interested in wildlife conservation 对野生动物保护感兴趣
• I told him I wasn't interested, but he wasn't deterred. 我已告诉他我不感兴趣，可他却不罢休。

13 worried   

adj.烦恼的，为难的，焦虑的

参考例句：

• He was worried about the safety of me.他为我的安全担心。
• He worried his father to buy a new car.他苦苦缠着父亲要买一辆新车。

14 invited   

v.邀请( invite的过去式和过去分词 )；请求；引诱；招致

参考例句：

• He hoped they would not feel affronted if they were not invited . 他希望如果他们没有获得邀请也不要感到受辱。
• They only invited Jack and Sarah as an afterthought . 他们邀请杰克和萨拉不过是事后想起的补救办法。

15 anyone   

pron.(=everybody)任何人

参考例句：

• Anyone who wants to can join.愿意的都可以参加。
• Have you got anyone to speak for you?你找到人代表你们发言了吗？

16 boring   

adj.无聊的；令人生厌的

参考例句：

• It is a boring film.这是一部枯燥乏味的电影。
• This story is kind of boring.这个故事有点无聊。

17 plan   

n.计划，策略，方法；v.计划，设计，意欲

参考例句：

• What do you plan to do during the holidays?你打算在假期里做什么？
• I talked with him about our plan,and he wanted in.我同他谈了我们的计划，他想参加。

18 ahead   

adv.在前，向前，提前，在前面

参考例句：

• We have to go ahead to find a garage.我们得到前边找个修车厂。
• Youth looks ahead and age backward.青年人向前看，老年人向后看。
