French voters elected centrist Emmanuel Macron as the country's youngest president ever Sunday, delivering a resounding¹ victory to the pro-European former investment banker. His far-right opponent Marine² Le Pen called Macron to concede defeat after voters rejected her French-first nationalism by a large margin³.

Five Boko Haram commanders were released in exchange for the freedom of 82 school girls kidnapped in Nigeria by the extremist group three years ago. The government's confirmation⁴ at the prisoner swap⁵ came one day after the young women were liberated⁶.

An 18-year-old has been charged for his alleged⁷ role in a shooting that wounded two plain-clothes Chicago police officers as they sat inside an unmarked vehicle. Authorities say Angel Gomez is suspected of driving the vehicle in which two shooters were riding.

A rescue ship arrived at an Italian port with 731 migrants on Sunday. The migrants were rescued off the Libyan coast on Friday in several different operations.
