 As the winter went by, I felt myself growing stronger and stronger. 随着冬天一天天地过去，我觉得自己变得越来越强壮了。

Toward² the end of winter it happened that my mistress³ had not had a letter for several weeks. 冬天快结束的时候，我的女主人连续几周都没有收到一封来信。

So she was quite sad. Then, one afternoon, an airplane flew over our heads. 她很悲伤。后来，一天下午，一架飞机从我们的头顶飞过。

Looking up into the sky, I saw a white paper falling slowly downward⁴. 我向天空望去，看见了一张白色的纸片从空中慢慢地落了下来。

I watched to see where it fell, and ran after it with a bark of joy, for I thought that it was a letter from my master. 我一直注视着，看它落在哪里，然后欢快地叫着追了过去，因为我觉得那是一封我主人的来信。

Looking off in the distance, I saw other papers⁵ coming down from the airplane, 我遥望远方，看到还有其他的纸片从飞机上飘下来，

With the paper in my mouth I rushed into the house to my mistress and proudly laid it at her feet, wagging⁶ my tail very hard in great joy. 我衔着那张纸冲进屋子，来到女主人面前，自豪地把纸片放在她的脚下，然后我高兴地使劲儿摇着我的尾巴。

She took the paper in her hand and this is what she read: 她把纸片拿在手中，读道：
