　　'Nought¹ loves another as itself, 没有人爱别人像爱他自己，

　　Nor venerates² another so, 也不会尊敬别人像对自己那样，

　　Nor is it possible to thought a greater than itself to know. 一个思想不可能去理解另一个比它本身更伟大的思想；

　　'And, father, how can I love you or any of my brothers more? 天父啊，我怎么能对你，或对任何我的兄弟爱得更深？

　　I love you like the little bird that picks up crumbs³ around the door.' 我爱你只能像那只小鸟儿，在门边上把面包屑啄个不停。

　　The Priest sat by and heard the child; In trembling zeal⁴ he seized his hair, and led him by his little coat, 坐在一旁的牧师听到孩子的话，激动得直抖，抓住他的头发：他拉着他的小衣裳、把他带走；

　　And all admired his priestly care. And standing⁵ on the altar high, 'Lo, what a fiend is here!' said he: 牧师的这份操心可让人人夸。高高地站在圣坛上，他开口说：瞧，这儿是个什么样的恶魔！

　　'One who sets reason up for judge of our most holy mystery.' 他竟敢批评我们最神圣的教义，妄加推论全是一派胡说。

　　The weeping child could not be heard, 孩子的哭泣谁也听不见，

　　The weeping parents wept in vain: 哭泣的父母白白地哭泣：

　　They stripped him to his little shirt, 他们剥光他只剩一件小衬衫，

　　And bound him in an iron chain, And burned him in a holy place 用一条铁链把他紧紧锁起。便把他在神圣的场所烧死，

　　Where many had been burned before; 以前那里也烧死过不少人：

　　The weeping parents wept in vain. 哭泣的父母白白地哭泣，

　　Are such things done on Albion's shore? 这类事情是在不列颠海岸发生。
