On Thursday, China’s Ministry¹ of Human Resources and Social Security called for calm, until more details are released over a fiercely debated government plan to raise the retirement² age.

Earlier we spoke³ to Du Peng, Director of the Center for Aging Studies at Renmin University.

He explained why the pension reform has raised public concern, and why a flexible retirement age could be the key to reforming the existing pension system.
