President Donald Trump¹ has escalated² his attacks on four progressive Democratic Congresswomen, suggesting they 'hate' America and advising them to leave the US if they are not "happy". Mr. Trump was accused of racism³, after originally tweeting that the ethnically⁴ diverse women should "go back to the totally broken and crime infested⁵ places that they came from". Three were born in the United States, while the fourth is a naturalised American.

A new report is calling for reform of Australia's health care system, saying it's become increasingly unfair, costly⁶ and confusing. As more young people drop private health cover, the Grattan Institute says insurers are under growing pressure to contain costs. If current trends continue, the research suggests the health system will find itself in a "death spiral", where young and healthy people abandon private cover, leaving a larger proportion of unhealthier, older and expensive users.

Documents obtained under freedom of information laws show mining company Adani demanded the names of every government scientist reviewing its contentious⁷ groundwater plans so it could check if they were 'anti-coal'. According to emails acquired by environmental group "Lock the Gate" in January Adani gave the environment department five days to hand the names over. Staff representatives from the CSIRO say it was a bid to intimidate⁸ scientists, as Adani waited on the last major regulatory hurdle⁹ for its Carmichael mine in central Queensland.
