 Real favourite pending¹ until last night. Of course Twelve years a slave and it did not disappoint. Lupita Nyongo looked great and won big to come the Oscar for best supporting actress. The movie itself of course took home the seminal² award of the night for best picture. A speaks with Nyongo and the star-studded team behind this singular film after their big wins.

It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thank to so much pains in someone else's.

I'm always so personally fascinated by the idea of giving awards for so subjective⁴ a thing. What, for you, what does it mean?

Well, it means that my work is appreciated. It means that I've got to played a woman, a character and a real woman who touched people.

The film also took home best picture as the cast and production team savored⁵ their winning moment including someone who is a part of both, Brad Pitt.

It's an incredible experience. It's previliged to be a part of the story, but it was Steve who found our story.

I dedicated⁶ this award to all the people who have injured slavery and twenty one million people who still suffer slavery today.

For seven weeks, the crew shot the film in the unforgiving 108 degree heat of Louisiana summer.

What does that do, what part do that play?

I think it worked to our benefit, I think the heat was a character in the story.

We wanted to make this story. We really got passion for it and we are very proud of the picture, very proud.
